About VHC

Vegan Hikers Club

Born in 2024 as the brainchild of founder Lucy Ronan, Vegan Hikers Club is an inclusive, like-minded and welcoming community of adventure-seeking vegan hikers in the UK. We host a variety of day hikes, weekend group trips, and other meetups all around the UK, creating a safe and fun space for vegans to step outside their comfort zone, make new friends, and spend time in nature with like-minded community!

Vegan Hikers Club is all about:

  • Having a safe space to be completely and unashamedly yourself around like-minded and compassionate people whose ethics and morals already align with yours
  • Acknowledging that it’s vital to have important and meaningful conversations about how we advance the movement, while also just switching off all the ‘serious’ stuff for a weekend to have fun (because yes, vegans can have fun too, and we can’t pour from an empty cup!)
  • Switching off your phone and stepping away from the stresses of everyday life and work to slow down, disconnect, and feel completely present in nature/with your fellow vegans
  • Acknowledging that veganism and hiking should really go hand-in-hand – I mean if you love nature, the environment and seeing cute animals on hikes, shouldn’t you by default also be vegan?!
  • Connection, community and compassion
  • Having heaps of fun!

REad our FAQs

Vegans of all shapes, sizes, ages, and backgrounds!

Yes. While there are other ‘vegan’ groups that allow veggies and meat eaters to attend, Vegan Hikers Club isn’t about activism, it’s simply about allowing vegans to connect with each other, and for this reason it is strictly for vegans only!

The Vegan Society defines veganism as “a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.”

Yes, a membership gives you the ability to book onto any of our official Vegan Hikers Club day hikes and group trips. Once you’ve paid for a membership, all day hikes are free and are hosted nearly every weekend throughout the UK. Without a membership, you can still join our group chats on WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram to organise your own independent hiking plans with other vegan hikers.

Unless your doctor has told you not to hike then no! Vegan Hikers Club is for absolutely everyone – from complete newbies to experienced mountaineers. We’re a very relaxed hiking group with a friendly pace – we’re all about soaking up the views, sharing vegan snacks, and putting the world to rights, not racing to the end!

Absolutely you should join us – and I can guarantee you there will always be people in a similar boat at our events! While you will be sharing rooms with other guests, the beauty of our group trips is that you can join as much or as little of the group activities as you like. Attendees always join for the hikes but if you want to take yourself away for a few hours afterwards to nap/read/go for a walk, the itinerary is super flexible and chilled, so it allows you to do that. This is your holiday, and I want you to feel as relaxed as possible! In the politest possible way, I promise no one will even notice if you leave the group for an hour or so, so just do what is right by you 😊 Plus, everyone is so friendly and welcoming and makes a huge effort to make everyone feel included and a part of the group ❤

Most people come to our events on their own, so you definitely won’t be the only one! On every single hike and group trip, there are always other new people joining too, so you won’t be the only newbie either! While it may seem like a lot of the group know each other already, that’s just testament to how friendly everyone is and how quickly people become great friends 😊 Everyone is always super friendly and so excited to meet fresh faces! Plus, once you’ve been to a couple of our events, you’ll start to know loads of others who are also attending the events.

Absolutely not! Our group ranges all the way from early twenties to early sixties, so we are a super inclusive and varied group! You’ll almost always find someone your age at our events – and if not, age is just a number, and we’re all a welcoming bunch! The average age of attendees is typically mid-thirties.

Yes! We create Instagram group chats for all attendees to our events so you can help organise car shares and station pick-ups. In fact, we encourage lift shares to help attendees save money and do their bit for the environment!

Yes, please just add this information as a Special Request while checking out and I can almost certainly make this happen when organising room plans!

You can always bring your dog with you on day hikes but please check first regarding group trips as some accommodation allows dogs (often for an extra fee) and others don’t.

Kids are allowed on our day hikes but our weekend trips are adults only!

Yes, that unfortunately means that hike or trip is sold out! However, if you email us at lucy@veganhikersclub.com or message @veganhikersclub on social media, I can add you to the waiting list in case anyone drops out.

We know that things can happen and change. Therefore, you may cancel your booking at any time, but bookings are only refundable over three months before the event takes place so that we have a chance of filling the spot! If you cancel within three months of the event happening, your booking is non-refundable. We do allow guests to sell their space to another community member but this is only possible when the event has sold out. If you find someone to sell your place to (you can do this via our Instagram and Facebook communities), please help us process this quickly by sending us the name and email address of the person you’re selling to. The transfer of places is a monetary transaction between you and the buyer, not Vegan Hikers Club. To cancel your order, please email us at lucy@veganhikersclub.com. To help us process your cancellation more quickly, please include your order number in the email or form you send to us.

So long as you pay for a full weekend ticket, you can arrive and leave whenever you want! There’s always a few people on each trip who leave Sunday evening or early Monday morning to get home in time for work.

Absolutely you can – the more the merrier! If you’d like to host a small unofficial hike, you can join our regional group chats on Instagram and Facebook to discuss and choose a date/location with your fellow VHC members :) Alternatively, if you’d like me to share an official hike with the wider VHC community, please get in touch via our Contact page and I can promote the hike and manage tickets via our website and social platforms! Please leave a minimum a month in advance of the hike for me to publish and promote so as many people can join as possible.

As our merch is print on demand, it takes a lot longer than most stores to print and deliver. It’ll typically arrive 9-10 days after you’ve placed your order!

The responsibility is on the participant to ensure their own personal safety at all times. We recommend participants fully understand and read the description of each event, bring the correct equipment and assess their own ability/fitness level before attending to reduce the potential of any incidents happening. Please always take the countryside and mountains seriously so that everyone can remain safe and have fun! Photos/videos will be taken at each event and by attending you’re agreeing that you’re happy for these to be shared on social media.

I 100% recommend booking onto a trip with Vegan Hikers Club. And if you’re nervous about coming on your own, then I guarantee you will be greeted by some of the most welcoming, kind and fun people you have ever met (like I did). We all had a fantastic trip to Snowdonia with a couple of great hikes, delicious meals and all-round great times. Will definitely be booking again.

Last weekend I was in a bunkhouse in Snowdonia with a load of new friends having the most wholesome time. I joined Vegan Hikers Club earlier in the year and anxiously attended my first hike in the Lakes, and it is easily one of the best things l’ve ever done. I can honestly say this gang is full of the most incredibly kind and caring people – vegans really are the most beautiful souls! I had conversations that made my soul sing and I left with a beaming smile, excited to see everyone again. Here’s to my other four trips this year! Thanks for creating something special Lucy.

When you set up Vegan Hikers Club, I saw it as an opportunity to get out and explore more of the UK in a space where I wouldn’t have to worry about being around people eating animals or asking me naive questions about why I don’t. I didn’t realise I would be joining one of the most wholesome and welcoming communities. This weekend I’ve laughed until I’ve wheezed, shed more tears (in a good way) than I have in the last decade, and formed several new genuine friendships that I hope will stand the test of time (and distance). It really was magical. In group settings – even with other vegans – it is rare I feel genuinely at home. But this weekend was different. Thank you Lucy and well done for what you’ve created (I’m tearing up as I write this).

I was a little nervous going away with the Vegan Hikers Club as I only knew a couple of people but I’m so glad I did! Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming and it was such an uplifting and inspiring experience.

Hiking Snowdon with this group of fun, compassionate and like-minded people made even the tough parts enjoyable! There were 20 of us in total, with all different fitness levels so I loved that we supported each other and set a pace that allowed us to hike as a group.

In the evenings we came together for games, dressed up as animals (because, why not?), had communal dinners, and shared loads of amazing vegan food! I had deep, meaningful conversations, so much laughter, and felt a real sense of belonging. It wasn’t just about the hike – it was about community, connection, and living our best lives together. I cannot wait to join another and see these absolute beauts again.
